On May 25th, 2018, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will come into effect. The GDPR will provide the implementation of the once-only principle with a coherent legal framework across all EU Member States and aims at protecting EU citizens personal data rights.

The German County Association ("Deutscher Landkreistag") published a position paper on the digitisation of public administration. One of the five demands towards the federal level claims the implementation of the once only principle. 

Greece will interconnect over 1000 civic registry offices in January in order to create the Hellenic Citizens’ Registry. This allows citizens to only provide data once and public administrations to reuse and share data.

January 1st, 2018 marked the beginning of the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU. Bulgaria is committed to work for a digital economy and supports the SDGR - and the once-only principle!
