ECRIS provides an infrastructure interconnecting the EU Member States' registries of criminal records, allowing them to exchange information on convictions with one another.
Short summary
ECRIS provides an infrastructure interconnecting the EU Member States' registries of criminal records, allowing them to exchange information on convictions with one another. ECRIS triggers communication of criminal sanctions and offences by using a matrix of a list of codes of criminal sactions and offences. The ECRIS allows for any European country to complete a criminal record check with three steps. All certificates in the database come from state governed central criminal record bureaus of EU Member States. ECRIS makes sure that the certificates comply to all relevant EU and local regulations. Currently, ECRIS covers 25 out of the 28 European Union countries.
